Why this site exists

Jobs in Cyber Security is an independent guide to working in security — the roles, the pay, the certifications and the routes in. It is written for two people: someone trying to break into the field who cannot tell good advice from a sales pitch, and someone already in it who is deciding what to specialise in next.

What we try to do differently

Cite the source, or do not make the claim

Every statistic on this site is attributed and linked. Salary bands say where they came from. Where a number is an estimate compiled from job advertisements rather than a survey, we say so. If we cannot source a claim, it does not go on the page — which is why you will not find a “3.5 million unfilled cyber jobs” banner anywhere here.

Describe the day, not the job title

Most career disappointment in security comes from choosing a title that sounded impressive and a daily reality that turned out to be a poor fit. So the career paths guide leads with what the work actually feels like — the interruptions, the writing, the on-call, the meetings — before it gets to the salary band.

Say when something is not worth it

Certifications, bootcamps and job boards are all sold to newcomers with considerable enthusiasm. Some are excellent. Some are expensive ways to acquire a PDF. We try to be specific about which is which, and about the point at which another certification stops adding value compared with hands-on work.

Publish salary ranges, always

Pay transparency changes outcomes, particularly for people negotiating their first security offer. Roles listed on our job board show a pay band. Roles that do not publish one do not get listed.

Where the data comes from

• Employment and growth figures — the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, which is the authoritative US source for occupational employment and projections.
• Workforce and skills trends — the annual ISC2 Cybersecurity Workforce Study, currently the largest recurring survey of practitioners.
• Certification pricing and requirements — the certifying bodies’ own published pricing and policy pages, checked directly rather than repeated from other guides.
• Salary bands — published industry salary guides cross-checked against advertised ranges in current job postings, presented as ranges rather than false-precision single figures.

Who writes this

Jobs in Cyber Security is independently run. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any certification body, training provider, recruitment agency, job board or employer named on this site — including CompTIA, ISC2, ISACA and OffSec, whose pricing and requirements we report but do not represent.

That independence is the point. Most cyber security career advice online is published by someone selling a course, a bootcamp seat or an exam voucher, and it reads that way. Nothing here is written to move a product.

How this site pays for itself

It currently does not. There is no advertising on this site, no affiliate links, no sponsored content and no paid placement in any guide. Job listings are free while the board is being built out.

If that ever changes — paid listings, sponsorship, affiliate arrangements — it will be stated plainly on this page and labelled wherever it appears, before it goes live. Not in a footnote after the fact.

Corrections

Certification prices move, salary bands drift, and links rot. If something on this site is out of date, unsourced or simply wrong, send it over with the page address. Corrections get made rather than argued with, and the pages that carry figures show when they were last reviewed.
